It's not just a matter of a point, but one of punctuation. It's not as if 1.2 is being confused with 12.0 or 0.12.
Rather, 1:1.2, often written in shorthand as f/1.2 or 50/1.2, is being confused with 1:2, which in the same
shorthand should be f/2 or 50/2, but is very, very often mistakenly given as f/1.2 or 50/1.2. Simply put,
the ":" in 1:2 is often read as "." even though the two punctuation marks signify different things.
Curiously, I have never seen anyone list a 50/1.12 or 50/11.2 lens for sale.
