Pentax Auto 110 Film camera lenses

Does anyone have any experience using these tiny cute looking lenses?
If they are half as good as this guys describes, then I'd get them.

For what format? They almost cover an APS-C sensor, they do cover m4/3. But keep in mind they don't have any aperture blades, you can use Lensbaby aperture disks...

I've seen people use them on m43. Be aware none have aperture control but you can insert a waterfall stop in the back of the lens with good results. Many use rubber washers.

Check out the "Adapted lenses tested on the Q" for a ton of information, it is a sticky in the Q section.

I've got the four lenses he talks about and I use them often on my Q7. The nice part about using them on a Q is that you are only using the center part of the lens so you get excellent edge to edge sharpness, no vignetting and no distortion. They are as good as he says, and with a rubber washer put in the back of the adapter you can get an effective f4.5 stop, which is optimum for edge to edge sharpness on the Qs. I haven't used them on bigger sensor cameras.

I would rank them as #1 50mm, #2 18mm, #3 24mm and #4 70mm. The 70mm isn't as sharp as the others and suffers from some purple fringing.

Here is a shot taken with the 18mm:

And one with the 50mm (cropped):

They all benefit from a hood, especially the 24mm.

Here are some MTF tests on the three smaller lenses: http://erphotoreview.com/wordpress/?p=404&page=2

Note how the resolution increases as the lens is stopped down. Also note the distortion figure for the 50mm lens!

The 18, 24, and 50 primes are all fairly easy to get, and are easily adaptable for Micro 4/3s.

The 70mm, the zoom, and the pan-focus lenses are significantly more rare, and probably aren't worth the expense of adapting.

Several sites actually suggest that the 70 is very sharp. Here is one:

Also there is a Flickr group that specifically caters to these lenses on m43.

I use them on the Q and Q7. I think the 50mm is better than the 70mm but I have not really got down to proper testing. I also have the Soligor 1.7x teleconverter which I have yet to test. If you think the lenses are tiny you should see the teleconverter!

From use on the 110 when 100 speed film could be purchased, my 50 was sharpest by far.
