I've got a K10D, plus an old Leica Rangefinder and let me tell you that as others have mentioned Pentax could make a F 0.95 lens, but why bother.

Very expensive. I don't know if this new Leitz lens is designed for their rangefinder, but I have a feeling that it is. A rangefinder's primary purpose, in life nowadays is to take advantage of it's ability to focus accurately in low light situations and the very quiet shutter.

These factors make it an unobtrusive camera at formal events, etc.

The Leica used to be the Professional camera, many a year ago, but SLR's and now DSLR's have pretty well shoved it out of the limelight.

There are just too many advantages that a DSLR has over a rangefinder and even the RF's ability to focus in low light is a moot advantage, considering the AF system of DSLRs.

Again as a Pentax and a Leica owner, I must say that my Pentax is more practical than my Leica and I have a wider scope to take pix with the K10D.

The Leica is a beautifully made, exquisite piece of equipment, more like a piece of jewelery...the camera equivalent of a Rolex watch

Although I cherish my little Leica, still use it, treasure it for it's durability, looks and ability to take pictures, I must admit that compared to the overall usefulness of my Pentax K10D, the Leica is more of a piece of jewelery , that just happens to take great pictures.

But, if I had to choose which camera to take on a long trip, or could just have one camera for taking pictures....it would be no decision....my Pentax K10D.

I agree it would be pointless for Pentax to make something so esoteric and necessarily expensive as an f1.0. I'm just hoping for a third party (such as Voigtlander) to drop us an option.

FWIW, I've seen many shots of the A and K 1.2 and don't see a dramatic difference between it and 1.4's in general. 0.95 oof, otoh, seems very dramtically changed.

Thanks for the tip on the registration distance Ben, slipped my mind. I've seen the Canon 0.95s modded for the M8, I guess I'd have to hope that with the Leica S2, M8 Mk1's will get cheaper in the next year to consider one just for an older 0.95... I'd do it if the prices were right!

Edit - Ben, regarding how I like the VLs and ZKs, check out the Voigtlander LBA and Zeiss ZK LBA threads here in the lens section, or click on my sig for my flickr page. Short story - love them on Pentax. SR and great MF glass makes me smile

According to what I just found from Photokina, it will retail for 6200! (that's about $12,000). Get real.

I think my FA 50 f/1.4 will do just fine.
