Fast short telephoto zoom - alternatives

I'm looking for a fast (f/2.8), short telephoto zoom.

I know there are two:
Sigma 50-150
Pentax DA' 50-135

The pitty is, both of them are not full frame (I think).

As I enjoy the convinience of zoom lenses very much, a prime (which I own) is not the solution.

And the 70-200 f/2.8 lenses out there are heavy as bricks ...

Are there viable alternatives? I prefer AF lenses by the way.

Thanks!

I think it's the FA* 80-320 ... or there abouts ... it's pretty large as well.

If you are after constant f/2.8 throughout a zoom range .. expect it to be large ... and costly.

There was a discussion that in telephoto range, lenses designated for APS-C are ok on full frame. Something to do with glasses having to be of a certain size anyway so the image circle doesn't go smaller than full frame's. I don't really understand the reasons, only remember the overall argument.

Has anyone ever shot a sample? I though there was significant vignetting with these lenses?

I have seen sample shots with significant vignetting from DA21 & Sigma 10-20, very mild vignetting from DA40. But of course these are not tele.

There were some samples from DA*50-135 here sometime ago in supporting the argument I mentioned i.e. no vignetting. You can try a search.

Any other fast and lightweight alternatives?

How about this:
FA 28-105mm 3.2-4.5

Is it any good?

You don't remember the adress, do you? I tried searching, but haven't found anything but one shot that showed slight vignetting, but it was B/W and downsized, without focal length or aperture given.

Nothing in between?

Is there nothing like 35-100 f2.8???

Nothing between 28-75 and 50-135? No lightweight f/2.8 zooms?

Recommendations appreciated

A lot of people really like this lens. It isn't f/2.8, of course.

The idea of a 35-105/2.8 is interesting. Not sure if there is any reason it couldn't be done. But any f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens is going to be relatively big & heavy - f/2.8 requires a lens be physically a certain size.

I think Tamron makes a 35-105 and a 24-105 f/2.8 adaptall which is of course manual focus

I must be really odd also because I hear comments about the 70-200 being heavy. I haven't held it but I do carry the 100-300 f/4 and even though I know its not a feather I think it balances really well. Weight is not much of an issue.

Hm, they should be about the same. The 100-300 is 1480g, the other 1370 (without hood, I assume).

Are you usually handholding it? Whatever I'm going to buy has to be "portable" in the sense of me beeing able to carry it for some time. Of course it wont be hanging around my neck for hours, though ...
