Here’s a LINK to everything you ever wanted to know about the five iterations of the Vivitar Series 1 70~210 ZOOM. The website owner is / was primarily a Pentax user at the time he created this page.
Yes, thanks. That was the link I inserted in my original post.

Here's how my version looks like - VIvitar Series 1 2.8-4.0/70-210 Macro (I guess version 4 - Cosina manufactured). I removed the Ricoh Pin in 2011 when I bought the K-5.

The latest images I've posted from this lens you can find here ...

Here are a few pix that I just took of the thrift store lens.

- I saw no evidence of an "A" setting or the text "PK" on the aperture ring.
- There is an "O" setting on the aperture ring.
- The serial number starts with "22", indicating that th manufacturer was Kino Precision.
- The mount is totally different to the mount on my Pentax-M lenses.

So, in summary, I don't think this lens is compatible with Pentax cameras.

That's what I like: a clear, unambiguous statement! Thanks for your help.

Yes, that is valuable info for sure. The thrift store manager understandably has no knowledge at all about the technicalities. Thanks all for your help!
