Cheap and 85mm don't go together
The cheapest are the Jupiter 9 (russian, M42, appreciated... but I never tried it) and a chinese 2/85 sold on Ebay (Meike? maybe Mitakon).
Both are completely manual. If you are fine with that, both are good portrait lenses, from the pictures I've seen online.
I'm not sure 85mm is so necessary on crop. On FF I use it a lot, in part because of the qualities of the lenses I have in that focal range (80/90mm).
EDIT:
for what it's worth - my answer is nothing, it all depends on personal preferences - my favorite portrait lenses are Revuenon/Tomioka 1.2/55, Helios 44 (silver, M39), 77 Limited (APS-C): 77 Limited, Helios 40 (silver, M39), Summicron Canada 2/90, Meyer Trioplan N 2.8/100, Soligor C/D P 2/135 (on FF).
MY examples of the Revuenon and Leitz Summicron are simply stellar. I own faster, more appreciated/expensive optics that are not as good for portraits. Probably it's my fault, or maybe I didn't give them enough time to "click" with my tastes and shooting habits.
Didn't mention soft focus lenses on purpose. I love them, I have most of them, though I have to admit that they don't work their magic on digital as they did on analog large format. I still have many chromes, up to 8x10", that I'm afraid will never see the light. A true pity... better think about something else
