I agree. As heretical as this may sound, I've found the 35/2 overall to be sharper than the two copies each of the 31 Ltd and 43 Ltd I've owned and returned/sold.
I have a 35 and a 31. Each has a place. The 31 is not the lens I would want to pick first to shoot stitched pano shots with.

In my case l haven't tried it. I have however read film era reviews that indicated exactly the same type of difference between the lenses. The fa35 was shown to be sharper across the frame wide open than the 31. The 31 had higher center sharpness.

Let me make another suggestion. Since you're shooting landscape and nature, why limit yourself to af lenses. An older lens, like the K 30/2.8 just might meet your need.

For what reason(s)? Because of the more even sharpness?

Yes. For non-stitched I would use either one.

This is my experience with the K-1 and the reason I kept the cheap FA35 vs. the 31 Ltd.

I have 43ltd, FA35/2 and the FA31ltd.
For an all rounder, I'd pick the FA31ltd nowadays on FF (K1).

Incredible rendering when used at the larger apertures to give isolation to the subject while giving environmental context with that wide 31mm.
Sharp edge to edge stopped down f8-f11.

43 is good for landscapes. I do think it loses some of its magic when stopped down but the color rendering is absolutely superb.
