Exactly right !

For around 150 years photographers had to "make do" with manual exposure 'cos that's all there was. With the advent of auto-everything many "photographers" have got lazy and simply miss out on a wealth of old lens technology just because it isn't a bayonet-mount autofocus zoom.

Good luck

Go one further and Sunny Sixteen is your friend. Learn to guesstimate. The beauty of digital is being able to see at once whether you got it right, and being able to modify the result easily if you didn't (though nothing will save those blown highlights; 255 on the histogram is a harsh master).

Ok I still need pics to show what to do, I don't do so well with words

But yes, I do totally do the whole green button thing and manual mode often, in fact I had a public speaking event today which was a no stress kinda event that I could fire off a few shots before getting what I felt was a good exposure before then really getting the shots (and I'll link some of those shots here and elsewhere later once processed).
My issue is that Av is a god send in certain scenarios where candid/capture the moment stuff is required, no test shots and metering really possible, you just want to pick the camera up, check aperture and shoot! My point to this thread was if there was something that could be done easily to the lens that meant I could get f2.8 or f4 to work in Av mode, even if that meant saying goodbye to using f2.5 (f2.5 and f2.8 if choosing f4 etc etc). It's just I am very unlikely to ever really use f2.5 with the tak 135, therefore I lose a handy shooting mode.

Now I apologise to those that have said you could do this or that, but much of the lingo and language used in the solutions go over my head (I don't even know what the aperture arm is!). I'd need pointed to a webpage that shows you how with pics, or someone to be kind enough to take some pics of what they mean and what to do etc with a similar lens.

This is what I used to do - worked a treat.
Converting M series lens to manual - PentaxForums.com
Don't let anyone tell you the lens is about to fall off - never had it happen.
Nowadays I am in M mode and guesstimate (digital preview helps)
