For some reason, a couple of Ebay resellers seem to be able to offer this lens fairly regularly at well below $400, which seems like it would be a scam, but several people have reported it being legit.
I dont think i could buy a new lens from ebay, especcially the DA*16-50 due to the QC stories I have heard here.

Note I was talking about the DA35 - that's the one you can sometimes get cheap from Prodigital2000. I certainly understand the reluctance, but they *are* apparently an authorized dealer with a reasonable return policy, etc. There is also hotdigital, which I understand might be a bit dicier, but again - the comments I've seen suggest that they are actually quite straightforward to deal with.

I bought all three of my DA lenses off eBay. The nearest camera shop that is any good at all is 135 km (85 miles) West of me, and don't have a large stock of SLR lenses. Great tripod selection - that's where I got my Manfrotto - but a bit low in the really high priced stuff. I live in a very low population area. The 12-24 and 50-135 came from Galaxy Camera in Ottawa (great people - they show 100% in the reviews) and the 16-50 came from B&H, mostly because I was impatient. Galaxy notified me they had one in a week after I got mine from B&H.

My favourite?

Store: I like Galaxy Camera the best. They are a very responsive store. Their prices reflect the usual "more in Canada" effect, but on the other hand, I have no import hassles. B&H did everything they promised; no fuss, just good service.

Lens: The lens that spends more time on my camera than any of my others is the DA* 16-50. I find this a very useful focal range for just walking about. With the MZ-S, my favourite on camera walk about lens was the FA 24-90. I occasionally miss the smaller field of view compared to 90mm on film (50 > 75) but not all that often.
