Ideally, yes, but usually there are difficulties.

1. Subject needs to stand still
2. Any change in expression, even slight difference in head position can add subjectivity (ie. like/dislike) to the photo
3. Needs a willing model

Maybe a statue in a park would be the closest, but those are usually in a boring dark color.

For my own lenses, I just can't be bothered with such comparisons and use them as the 'lens of the day' and will always conclude that I like them all

I think it's a nice test, and very interesting, but should be reshot with a controlled light source. Sunlight varies constantly in intensity, even if our eyes can't see it, specially with clouds and at sunset when the light has to cross a lot of atmosphere. Test "A" seems burnt and overexposed.
No clouds and each exposure taken using manual settings using a Gossen Sixtomat meter in incident mode to take the readings.

I would say lens B is my favorite. I think I'll wait for the new Pentax 85mm

If the new Pentax 85 is designed along the same parameters as the new 50. It is likely to be very big, probably at least a 77mm filter thread and very expensive. I would guess at least £2000 and probably more.

Only so many hours in the day.
I mainly did this because several people asked how they compared when I posted about getting the A* lens.

Yesterday the shots were taken in the sun and so very high contrast. I thought it might be useful to repeat the exercise today while the flower was still in the shade.

So first the 77 ltd

My guess is that it will be priced closer to 1500euros... but potentially worth every penny if it's as sharp as the new 50mm.

Maybe, but I doubt it going from passed "price comparisons". Much will depend on the number of groups elements in the design. I can't see it being only about 9% more than the 50mm.
But we can all dream on.

Looking at both examples, I'd say my favourite is the 77! Lens A is my favourite in the three mystery lenses, lens B looks soft and lens C creates a purple tint. That could be due to processing or JPEG creation, however.

Since it's more different, I'd guess the Zeiss is the C, the M is the B and the A is the A... But I'll keep my 77

Was there a slight breeze perhaps? I'm noticing some differences in focusing and perhaps a little motion blur. Some are focused on the anthers, some on the petals. Are you using live view? I know it's damn hard to nail focus it being so paper thin. Specially if there are aberrations.
I would guess B is the Zeiss, C is the A* and A is the SMC. The 77 and exhibit A burn colors in pretty much the same way. I hope we can get pleasantly surprised.
