Super Takumar 1.4/50mm 8-Element "killer" vs 7-Element Sample Comparison

I finally took out my Super Takumars for a extensive 1.4/50mm 8-Element vs 7-Element Sample Comparison.

Thanks for shooting the comparison and posting it here!

Very interesting comparison. I did not appreciate the colour pop that an 8 element could produce and will certainly keep a look out for an 8 element.
I have a 7 element Super Takumar currently, which I sometimes use instead of the FA50 f1.4. I like the convenience of the FA50 but prefer the wide open bokeh and rendering (not to mention lovely build) of the Super Takumar.
Although interestingly my Super Takumar does seem quite prone to flare - more specifically contrast washes out in bright light. A good hood is essential on mine. That said maybe mine has seen better days (it has a very minor spot of fungus on one element edge).

I love both lenses. The difference in both lenses is lessened if i were to put hoods on both and LR them individually. Also I could have de-yellowed them both but I don't do that anymore because I enjoy the unique lens patinas now.

I have both lenses, but have never done a head to head comparison. Some day I may get ambitious and do a head to head on film, but not as comprehensive as this. Thanks Sliver-Surfer.

I also have both lenses but the 7 element is so yellowed that it would not be a valid comparison. I suspect the yellowing of your 7 element may have helped it in the fringing comparison. Perhaps I could stack 3 against each other -- I have the s-m-c model as well and it is not yellowed.

Ummm my s-m-c has yellowed a bit as well. So here is an extended comparison. This is the second comparison I have run that my 7 element sup tak trails slightly in the sharpness area. Not surprises here really though - depressingly similar. Really the practical difference is so slight that I would do best to choose which lens based on colour temperature required.
In Camera jpg probably at reset settings. (K1)

Bokeh comparison. Crops 3200 x 2000 resized for here.
All @ f1.4
Focus on flowers centre top of crops.
Once more - choose your lens for its colour temperature!!

Would it be fair to say the 7 element SMC Pentax K 50mm 1.4 is kinda like a 7 element SMC Tak 50mm 1.4 if it were an A series?

lol - does that make sense?
