The Pentax DA 10-17 fisheye vignettes badly on FF for focal lengths below about 14.3 mm, but this vignetting appears to be entirely due to the built-in hood.
The DA 10-17 fisheye is the same lens as the Tokina 10-17, except that the latter is offered only in Nikon and Canon mounts. However, Tokina also offers
versions without the built-in lens hood, which they claim to be FF-compatible.
This seemingly confirms the suspicion that optically, the DA 10-17 is capable of covering the FF sensor. If so, it would be such an easy fix for Pentax/Ricoh to offer another FF lens.
As far as I can see, short of machining it down, there appears to be no way to remove the hood from the existing DA 10-17. Has anyone heard of this being done?
