What you really have to watch out for is temperature fluctuations, and the gear being exposed to rapid changing temperatures. That's why leaving lenses in your car is much worse than leaving them in a basement. In a bag in a basement, the temperature and humidity levels would change very slowly so there is not much to worry about.

If you want to be confident you're actually protecting your stuff, get something like this: 10 Gram Indicating Silica Gel Aluminum Canister - SilicaGelPackets.com - it changes color when it's no longer absorbing moisture, then you know to throw it in an oven (for 2 hours at 280 degrees F, it even has the instruction on the tin) to reactivate it.
Thanks for the tip

You probably do want to be a bit careful if they're cold and you're moving them to a warm humid place. Leave them in a bag or pouch until they warm up...definitely don't be pumping zoom and focus and letting warm moist air into the innards of a cold lens.

As robgski mentioned, it's a good idea to keep a small packet of desiccant in your lens case with a lens. I use the kind with an indicator which goes from orange to green when it has had its limit of moisture (then you throw them in a 250 degree F oven to restore their moisture absorption). Check ebay for lots of options. There are large and small packets so don't buy a humongus packet size for your lens case (maybe more appropriate for a camera).

I think your original question has been thoroughly answered - no anti acid needed (for your stomach).
