when I asked, I was told by Precision that although Pentax doesn't make the lens in Japan, it is where they do the repairs

not sure if that is limited to the HD Pentax-D FA * 70-200mm F2.8 or all lenses

______________

BTW, today I got good news, it is repaired back from Japan and was shipped to me today by Precision via UPS

tracking info says by the end of day Wednesday the 12th

well within their estimate of time needed for repair:

11/14/18

I have decided to go ahead and have Precision do the repairs

told it would be 5 -6 weeks minimum because it is in japan

Then now is the time to learn.
This is the obvious answer.
My 70-200 requires diffenrent focus adjustments for 70/135/200 mm. I now use a value that works best for the longer focal lengths. Wthout any adjustment the lens can be completely off depending on your camera.

well I will be calling Precision on Monday

got out yesterday to try the repaired lens

still has the same problem as I did before I sent it in for repair:

Operator Error

[ I'll keep trying to improve ]

other than that, the repaired autofocus and manual focus operated flawlessly and silently

I always compliment when I get good service and complain when I don't so I will call and say thanks personally

I have had a number of ESO issues (equipment superior to operator) over the years... and sometimes it’s been real work to overcome the difference...

But I will say it’s awfully nice when a repair scenario you think is about to become comically tragic turns out OK in the end 🙂
