The 12-24 is superb. I haven't used the 10-17, but the main drawback with that lens seems to be that you end up finding limited applications for fisheye after a while - it's very fun, but it really can't do 'general-photography' tasks as well as the 12-24.

hey everyone, thanks for the additional responses.

Jsherman, thanks for the link to the photos, they were fantastic. I was afraid that the 12-24mm was that impressive, now it'll be tough not to get it.

I think i'll be passing on the 10-17 because of its limited applications. the 12-24 has the SMC coating that trumps other companies.

Looks like i have to save up again.....

Actually, the 12-24 is less expensive than you might realize. Prodigital2000 has it for $599.99 + shipping.

The Fleabay store "Quality Filters" has excellent prices on the Hoya Pro1 Digital UV filters; I have the 77mm on my 12-24 and it works just fine. I've bought from them before with no problems.
