I have been looking for the pentax 67 67mm T132 Closeup lens for about year w/o much luck. The idea is to use it with my F* 300mm f f4.5 as it has a tripod collar.

Anyone have any suggestions for a achromatic close up filter, I have a feeling I am better off just getting good third party lens at this point, if anyone has any suggestions...

The Canon and Nikon ones are excellent. I have both and the FA* 300. I am a bit overwhelmed with Thanksgiving but if you ping me tge week after I can run a test. I think my Canon is 77mm (500D) and my nikons are 62mm with a step up ring to 77. I'll check for a 67mm ring and if I don't have one I'll see about getting one. I have used the CANON on my DA* 200.

Canon makes a 77mm one, I think Nikon may make a 62mm one. The 300mm needs a 67mm, I wasn't sure if it was ok to use a step up ring with these...

I have frequently used the Nikon 5T (which is 62mm threaded) on a step-down ring, so I could use it on an 80-200 2.8 Nikon, or a 300mm 4.0 - both of which have 77mm front ends.

While you would think there would be some vignetting by using a smaller attachment on a larger lens - there isn't. I do sometimes wonder that the step ring functions as a front aperture, and I lose a small amount of light gathering - but it's not like I'd ever be shooting macro like this wide open anyway.

The Nikon 5T and 6T attachments were pretty popular and were made for many years, so they're not as hard to find as some of the other achromat macro attachments made by others. Also, 62mm is something of a semi-orphaned filter size all of a sudden, so used market prices for them have dropped a bit in the last few years. Shortly after Nikon discontinued them, it wasn't uncommon to see them selling for triple their original price on the auction site.

I would not recommend using the Pentax 6x7 T132 closeup adapter on a 35mm format lens. The T132 was designed for 6x7 150-200mm lenses and not 300mm 35mm format lenses.

Extensions tubes (I used them a lot with my old F*300), or a reverse adapter with a wide angle lens. I used to use my 24 quite a bit for extreme macros, manual stop down only though.

There was no closeup lens attachment made that will work with the F* 300/4.5 that I'm aware of.

As mentioned above, extension tubes are your only real option.

Each of these was shot with my FA* 300 f4.5 wide open and handheld. The ISO is high, these are SOOC jpgs set for XS size I think. The filters were literally held in place with one hand and the camera was held with the other hand. I don't own a 62 to 67 step ring or a 77 to 67 one to make the filters fit. Lighting was a small table lamp nearby. All shots made with the lens at minimum focus distance roughly.

I've experimented a bit with a macro lens and inverted WA lenses, and what seems to happen is that the extender magnifies what's already been magnified by using extension tubes. So you get greater magnification by putting the extender closest to the camera. It doesn't magnify as much right behind the lens.

Interesting. Theory makes sense. Glad to know the practical works also. Huge light losses however I'd expect.

Yes, of course. Lots of artificial light and/or long exposures needed.

+1 on this one. Much, much lighter than a big lens and greater magnification, although closer working range. Kind of depends on the subject.
