SMC Pentax 50mm 1:1.2 Super Fast Lens For Parts | eBay

I know we've seen f1.2s go for princely sums and we've seen some battered 1.2s rehabed by talented folks here. Not sure if this one is salvageable but I thought I'd post it in case someone with talent wants to take on this project.

Wow, that’s even more battered than mine was before dcshooter worked his magic on it. There are some nasty looking gouges around the front element.

Jesus! Have they fought a war with it?! Jokes aside, although the outside is pretty bettered, the internals look not so bad, a couple of mold spots here and there but still... I would consider buying it! Thanks for sharing!

Should come up just fine with a quick rub with a cleaning cloth.

Was it tossed from a moving car?

A good clean lens for sale. I used to keep it in my coveralls until my wife ran it through the washing machine and threw it in the spin dryer. No mold (yet) or dirt and still focuses (pretty well).

This sort of thing just makes me realize what an opportunity Pentax is missing with no f1.2 in the lineup. A simple 50/1.2 that could be used by the hipsters on either their retro-film cameras or their mirrorless would sell a good bit - particularly if Pentax could make it at a reasonable price.

I think what happened is someone wanted to clean the fungus. They found some internet advice to unscrew the trim ring first. They tried really hard to get that trim ring unscrewed. Unfortunately that's not how the 50/1.2 comes apart. What surprised me was the mount screws are intact. Often the inexperienced repairer attacks the other side as well. Probably worth a gamble. That trim ring needs an auto body shop. You'd need a focus grip substitute. The fungus is still there, so you'd have to hope that can be cleaned without much underlying damage. The lens disassembly info is here:

I have a strange feeling this lens is going to sell for a lot more than it's worth. People will forget there's 23 dollar shipping.

Value is interesting. I think eBay is the best market for rare damaged lenses because it will reach the largest number of people who hope they can fix it or use it. The damaged A50/1.2 was from the same seller, same shipping cost, so sets a reasonable bar at $56. Maybe $40-45. The severe cosmetic issues mean a really limited future resale value, so the lens would never be worth what a good-looking one is, even if performance is the same. I can't imagine the parts value is that high because nearly everything you see is wrecked, so you'd have to hope the unseen part you need is OK.
