Where do you see these 'facts', because everything I've heard says it changes
length while zooming.

.
you're asking the wrong hombre. I just provided a link to a site which claimed to have facts.

This is what I have heard and believe it to be also..I would hate to think that such an expensive lens would have external zoom. This is one of the things that endears me to the 50-135 F/2.8

JCPentax from the other forum (and a Pentax employee) said there that making it internal zoom would of meant huge size and very heavy weight for such a lens. But from the picture I see that unlike DA*16-50 this one has only 2 "segments".
And indeed looks huge when extended!

every standard zoom i know of extends.
in this category, none of the 70-200s do, nor does the Sigma 100-300

I don't really find it a problem, I'd rather a more compact lens when it's fully retracted, so it doesn't take up huge amounts of space in a camera bag, rather than a big single non-extending unit that's the same size all the time.

Lens size is more annoying when carrying rather than using.

the balance becomes unwieldy if the lens is heavy and it sticks out, e.g. the bigma
