I don't have an arthritic hip, so my priorities would be different. However, based on my experience in those locations, I would definitely want to take a fast wide lens. For me that's the DFA 15-30 f/2.8, which is great for monumental architecture, both inside and out. That would be my one indulgence weight-wise. After that, choosing from your available lenses, I would take the DFA 28-105 (relatively light, with 105 mm being enough for this trip) and a fast "normal" such as the FA 43 (small, good for interiors and low light). I have done multiple trips to Japan and China, and this set (actually with the DA 40 instead of the FA 43) was perfect for me.

I could take the 15-30, 24-70 and 60-250 and have superb IQ for my k-1, but that's a lot of heavy kit for my arthritic hip to handle. I could go minimalist and just carry the 3 amigo's and the Dfa 100 (maybe with a couple of TC's for the 100) and something wide and light, but the only lenses I have that are wide AND light are for crop sensors. I could take the magical DA15 and be prepared to crop off the vignetting (or shoot in crop mode) so I get a 21ishmm field of view. But I would sure miss the versatility and convenience of the zooms. Maybe I could take the 10-17 FE and defish? Could I live with 16mp images?

I bought a 24-105 after reading this forum, with a view of using it as a 'travel' lens in lieu of the 24-70, but after the experience of the superb build and image quality of the DFA 24-70, the DA 24-105 sort of leaves me a little in the 'meh' camp.

I could revert to my trusty K-3 and take the 12-24, 16-50 and 50-135 (or 60-250) and have superb IQ for a crop body, but boy oh boy I'd miss the K-1. At least I would have the convenience of a sometimes useful built in flash

first world problems, I know

Any suggestions would be appreciated
The DA12-24 works real well after 17mm on the K-1, Wiz.

I've found in my traveling I tend to go towards the wider side, but it's often nice to have some telephoto. How about the 15-30, 43, 60-250? That's one chunk of glass out. The other thought would be to ditch the 15-30, grab yourself a Rokinon 14 for when you need really wide, and have the 24-70 as your main lens. This is where you need something like my A* 200/2.8 to finish off the kit so you can leave the 60-250 at home too. I did extensive traveling with my ME Super and my M28/2.8 probably took 80% of the shots. The other lenses I was toting around at the time are my M50/2 and M75-150/4. I'm surprised from all the positive things I've read that you don't like the DFA 28-105. Have you checked it for decentering?

Thanks for responding Paul. I agree the 15-30 is a wonderful lens, probably the best WA zoom available in any dslr mount

What I neglected to say was I'm also thinking of taking my nisi filters on the trip. While the 100mm filters are large and awkward to carry and use, the 150mm set for the 15-30 is just too big to travel with. The da 15, or the FE 10-17, or even the sigma 10-20 are far more compact and can use the more compact filter set, if and when I get a chance to contemplate a sunrise/sunset
