I’v heard that 18-55 is usable on ff from 24-50 or so, have you tried that?

I have not tried any DA APS-c lens without the crop feature on the K-1ii....maybe we should try taking some pics and see how much vignetting and distortion there is and at what focal length/f/stop?

Yes, the 18-55 covers the FF sensor above about 24mm. However, the K1 deserves a better lens.

I'm new to FF (my K1 is due to get delivered today) but expect that my travel kit will end up being similar to my 35mm film days e.g. most of the time I'll carry a 20-35mm F2.8 zoom, an 80-200 F2.8 zoom (both ATX-Pro Tokinas) plus a fast 50mm prime. If travelling really light I'll just go with a 24-70mm F2.8 zoom or sometimes even just a 24mm prime (I suspect I'm going to miss the FA* 24mm F2 that I sold a few years back but I've got a few manual focus options).

Having said that I have one of the little 4/3rds systems and those tend to be my lightweight travel options.

Very niteresting thread!

For me some are constants, some vary.

In the past I did not have the 28-105, so I used the 16-85.

I always bring the FA43 and the FA 20-35 for wide angle shots.

I almost always bring the FA77 and DA-60-250 modified for FF, but sometimes will replace these two with the DFA 100 macro WR.

So it's either a 3 or 4 lenses kit. But sometimes I'll bring mostly all that I have and decide which to bring with me on a particular day.

I also always bring my Sirui T-025X travel tripod and Metz 52 AF-1 flash. I'va recently acquired an AF360 V1 to serve as a W-TTL master.

For a long hike (about 12 day's) in the back country I take the Samyang 24mm and the DA*300mm, 6 and 10 stops ND filters and a light Siriu tripod with my usual Markins ball head. The Pentax lens is wonderdfull to pick out features in the landscape and to compress the hilly surroundings. And when I see a opportunity it helps to document the wildlife. The Samyang is for all the wide angle stuff including shooting the night sky. I alway's carry to much batteries; 5 should be enough. I leave the battery grip at home. Apart from some cleaning stuff and tripod with head everything fits in one bag on my chest with the big backpack on my back.

I travel primarily for landscape photography, and my FF kit for landscapes is the DFA 28-105, the FA 20-35, the F 17-28, and the FA-J 75-300. The FA-J lens is the weak link in that lineup, so sometimes it gets replaced with the KP plus the DA 55-300 PLM. In any case, all the lenses listed above weigh less than a pound; the two wide angle zooms weigh about half a pound; which means my total kit weighs less than a comparable FF mirrorless kit.

As an alternative to the FA-J 75-300 I've had good results using a Sigma APO 70-300.

I enjoy K1 with silver FA 80-320 / 4,5-5,6 with no original metal lens hood, for $ 100 with ebay from Japan in Europe in mint condition, blend f4.5 up to 200mm,

my amateur even better than DA 55-300 / 4-5.8 ED on K-30

What amazes me on this is:

1-the huge number of people who use the 28-105.

2-even more so: how much people seem to love the FA20-35.

I can see why, as these two lenses are the two most recent additions to my kit. But there's clearly something there: Pentax should definitely release an updated version of the 20-35 with a similar form factor. WR, quick-shift, HD coatings, it would sell quite well. I know I'd get one.

Same here. That'd be the perfect modern lens for the full frame camera body.

My minimal FF travel kit is:
K-1ii
Sigma Superwide II 24/2.8
FA 43
FA 77

On my recent holiday visit to Michigan I brought the above, plus a Rokinon 14/2.8 that I didn't end up using and a Tamron 70-200 that I brought for a specific single shot I wanted to get while there.
In addition I had my little aluminum Manfrotto BeFree tripod which I didn't use much but needed for that one shot with the 70-200.

This trip was not all about photography and I knew I'd be in the city a bit so I wanted to keep it small and light.

I'd really like something better at the wide end. The Sigma is ok, but with two other Limiteds in the bag it's shortcomings are fairly noticeable.
FA 31 would be a natural match but I want something closer to 20mm.

I have Joby 5K kind a gorillapod with ball head, you can put up to 5 KG load on it. It is small and you can use rails, tables, ect. to get it higher up when needed. Great compromise, as it is quite sturdy and small. I have even used my DFA70-200 on it, no problem.

If I want to go light, then 15-30 + FA 43&77 or DA*55 and maybe even DA55-300WR, maybe. It is not so great, but better than nothing.
