I need some input on which lens would be best to buy on a limited budget. I would like to start by saying I own K100D. I have recently bought the PENTAX-FAJ 75-300MM. This seems to work OK but need more distance like 400mm or above. I have to shoot pictures of youth sporting events from the stands. I was wondering if any of the older series would work. I don't mind having to do manual.

Please give advice, price range, where to find used equipment.

my solution ain't cheap

Sigma APO 70-200 F2.8 EX plus 1.4X and 2X sigma TCs.

Pro's extremely fast between 70-200 when used alone, great for indoor sports.

For additional reach TC's let you get just what you need and still have better speed than your present lens.

Con's are cost and weight.

If you search I have pposted shots showing quality of image with TC attached. Virtually nothing lost
