Because we're injecting this 'n that comments beyond what the OP had in mind, field curvature is generally more of a problem with wider angle lenses than long ones. It's easy to understand - - objects along a plane parallel to the sensor that are at the edge of the FOV are much farther away from the lens than objects near the center when using WA, and much, much farther away when using UWA. With long FL lenses, almost everything in a plane parallel to the sensor is at very close to the same distance from the front of the lens.

Good Article.... I like his suggestion to use a $100 bill (I will likely have to go smaller) rather than focusing tools. This actually eliminates my concern about distance from target to ruler.

His photos are crazy SHARP! And his lenses are probably crazy EXPENSIVE. $12k for the 800mm 5.6.
