Autofocus issue with 80-200mm FA f2.8

Hi Folks .

I just got my 80-200 FA 2.8 lens from KEH. It's in beautiful shape, but I cannot get it to autofocus. I do not know if it is an issue with the lens or something wrong I am doing. What does the button that say PZ, AZ, Mode actually do? Is there a locking mechanism in the lens? I'm hoping it is that otherwise I need to send it back to keh.

Okay, I figured it out! There is a clutch mechanism.

PS. I still don't know what those other buttns are for though. I appreciate enlightenment

PZ is PowerZoom. Use the clutch to zoom. Like point and shoot zoom buttons. Drive by wire
AZ are for Autozoom features. Those are interesting features. Used by advanced bodies like PZ-1P, MZ-S.
If I am not mistaken, the camera can keep an image at same magnification size by automatically zooming. Much like AF-C for focusing.
I almost bought a PZ 28-80 for my PZ-1P. But settled for 28-70/4 instead
The PZ contacts in the lens is now used by SDM. So modern cameras using SDM can't use any PZ functions

He figured it out. The clutch was on manual focus.

That is correct, also only flagship bodies permit power zoom but even then lack the special modes.
