I believe that it's a Nikon F-mount.

Edit: Here is some info on the lens: http://users.monash.edu/~ckopp/Sigma-AF-400mm-f5.6-APO.html

Covers all the main ones very clearly, main absentee is Konica. If you are looking at an older sigma lens then sigma sa often catches people out - look like a pentax k but with canon style electrical contacts.

@marcusBMG, excellent reference, thanks. I'll add it to my library of links.

Do you know whether the mount in question is properly called Nikon F or Nikon AF-D?

It is Nikon F in the same manner as KAF2 is Pentax K. Since it has an aperture ring, it should be broadly compatible to all AIS F-mount cameras dating back several decades.

Note: I may be wrong, but the array of contacts indicates that the lens is chipped, but whether it is chipped for D (distance), while probable, is hard to say.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I was looking for a long tele photo lens and recently bought a Sigma SA mount (i though i was buying a PK mount).

Just wanted to make sure before i try to buy another lens from an auction site.

Thanks
