I wonder if anyone used both DFA 50/1.4 and FA 77/1.8 lenses?
I'm thinking about getting one of those.
I'll be using it for portraiture, candids, etc on K-1.
Currently I have 24-70. Not bad. But sometimes not enough light and bokeh.
Any suggestions for either one will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Waiting for the D-FA 85, I was in need of a portrait lens. I did not feel like shopping a used FA85. So, I bought a new copy of the FA77 (had one on my K5 years ago, but it was too long on APS-C, so it got replaced by the DA55). The 77 has a great angle of view for portraits, extremely nice bokeh and it is small and unobstrusive - do you like to be watched by a big, huge lens? Rendering is very nice - not as clean as my DFA50, but great. The 1.4/50 is in a totally different category of lenses. It is big and heavy - compared to the 77 - and extremely sharp, quick AF, weatherproof and all the new features. Bokeh is nice, but angle of view and bokeh are not perfect for my portraiture work. Got the D-FA*50 to shorten the wait for the D-FA*85. I am not sure today whether to replace the 77 later with an 85 that performs like the 50. The 77 hs loud AF, more color fringin trouble, but it really performs and the size to performance ration is great.
I also went on a trip just with the D-FA50. One lens is sometimes enough. Focal length was fine, zoom by feet. Large aperture was appreciated. It is amazing to be able to use ANY aperture and get crips images border to border. Compared to a classic 50mm walk around lens, the combo was quite large and heavy. Today, I would prefer the 77. What will happen when 85 and a WA will arrive, I am not sure.
