New long zoom

Woo hoo, my new HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW zoom arrived today! I won't have a chance to play with it until this evening, but I'm looking forward to experimenting and I'll be happy to post my impressions and some sample images. It's pretty heavy; I think a monopod is definitely on my Christmas list now!

Any tips or tricks to know for this lens from those who are already familiar with it? I'm using it on a K-1.

Cheers,
-Chris

welcome

I use a K 3 or K 3II not the K 1 but the lens can be used without support

but as you know, it is big and heavy so support if possible is probably best

however if you don't have support, try these techniques

the principles are the same, how to help steady your camera and lens

Is there a way to edit a post once it's posted? I didn't see an obvious way to do so.

I wanted to update to be more specific about which exact lens it is; it's the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW.

Welcome - and snap! Just got mine yesterday too. S/H - a fortuitous ebay purchase. Already impressed from a few quick shots - beautiful crisp sharp contrasty resuts.

I often use a monopod. I found this web page useful.

How to Use a Monopod

I now use the between the legs method #3 mostly - works for me.

I believe that there's a short-term limitation on new members editing their initial thread posts, so I've edited it for you.

Of course I missed the light by the time I got home to try out my new lens, so most of my new trials will take another day or two, but here's a first try just to show that it works. :-) Hand held at 450mm.
