Star lens types and colors

I'm cuirious...

Often I see people selling star lenses, and the brag about it being a white star, or a green star or a red star. Is there really any meaning to the star color? The only place I see ANYTHING about star color is in the sale listing... I've serched around here or the net and never found any reference to a secret club that gets green stars and extra spectacular, super magic glass, where everyone else gets white stars and only great glass.

I'm guessing this is a myth.

Thoughts?

AFAIK the color of the star (and lens ring) is purely cosmetic. The current lineup uses gold, previous lineups used other colors.

Can’t say I’ve heard of different color stars, but the greed stripe signifies SMC coating and the red stripe signifies HD coatings. Hope that helps some?

At the "Kerrowdown Harem" the "Ladies" worthy of stars namely... “Sweetheart” (Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4), "Lady Luck” (Pentax-A* 135mm F1.8), “Gorgeous Lady” (Pentax-A* 200mm F2.8 ED), “Duchess” (Pentax-A* 300mm F4.0) all have Green ones.

The star color varies by lens type if I recall correctly. Green* = M*/A* series, Red* = F*, Black= FA* series, Gold Band with Red Star = DA* , Gold Band with Black Star = DFA*

The star is the only important part as far as quality and resolution. The color it is represented in is mainly cosmetic.
