You already got good advice. I will add a few points.

I have both the DA18-135mm and DA18-270mm. Both are relatively small lenses (eg compared to the Sigma) and this is an advantage for travel. The DA18-135mm is the smallest, good overall and WR. It is the favorite of my wife who uses a K-01. Personally I prefer the DA18-270mm for its versatibility. I had a DA18-250mm before and the DA18-270mm replaced my old DA18-250mm which died of 'old age'.

KEH has recently a DA18-270mm for sale:
Pentax 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 SMC DA ED SDM K Mount Autofocus Lens For APS-C Sensor DSLRS {62} at KEH Camera Store
and you might use the discount code:
KEH 12/18-EX and EX+ Sale-ends at midnight 12/18 - PentaxForums.com

I am a prime lens person (see my profile), but I value highly the flexibility of the DA18-270mm, enabling me to travel with one camera body, one lens, one spare battery, plus battery charger and flberless cloth in a tiny bag. Yet you cannot fault the DA18-135mm if it meets your needs.

My 5 cents.

When I travel with my K-3, it's the 18-135 that goes along for the ride.

Unfortunately It's complicated for me to buy from abroad. My intention is to buy on my next trip to France (I know, it's more expensive than the US, but here in Brazil is a steal)

I'm an experienced photographer, my problem is specific to the "new" Pentax lenses
I'm strictly a newbie and trying to learn

one of the nice things about the market place you can filter the threads by country/region if you want:

Your best options are the 18-135, my dad has one and loves it or the even more phenomenal 16-85. The extra 2mm on the wide end is huge so I don’t have to switch lens so much... It is also a bit better performer but the 18-135 for its price point does really deliver too and gives you extra on the long end.

Either one would blow away the 18-55, however when stopped down the first generation of this lens was useful enough it lived on my dads K100D and K10D a lot before his pair of K3 Mark II’s which is when the 18-135 came about.

@aslyfox: Thank you, I really appreciate. I undestand what you meant. We're all are always learning. It's a never ending process. I didn't meant to be unpolite when I said that. Sorry.

@hcc @gm4life @astrodave : Sure I'll take a look at this 18-135.

I've been getting great results - really sharp - with the 16-85 (as good as the 21mm prime). I've gotten great results indoors, at museums, etc., even though the lens isn't that wide. When I travel, I also take a wider, small prime (35 or 50) for evening shots or when I don't feel like carrying the heavier zoom.

I have both the 18-135 and the 16-85. I think the 16-85 is shaper, but it is a little larger and heavier than the 18-135. As others have said, the 18-135 is still a good lens with a little longer reach. If I take my whole camera bag, I take the 16-85. If I just take my body on a trip, I tend to take my 18-135 along with my DA 10-17.

Hello !

I have two camera bodies, K5-II and K3-II four primes and two zoom lenses.

The two zoom lenses, the annoyung but awesome Sigma 18-35 1.8 "Art" and the kit lens, the 18-55 AL WR.

Honestly I'm not heappy with neither one. The 18-35 is a focus lottery and the 18-55 is not really a good option when wide open.

I'm between two g.p. zoom lenses, the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 "C" and the Pentax 16-85 3.5-5.6 ED HD DA or something else more sharp and open, but not too expensive.

The use will be for travel and moderate macro would be desirable feature.

Any suggestions ? I'm completely lost between the options...

Thanks !
Simply get the tamron 70-300mm not WR. But can be had pretty cheap. Or the DA 55-300 plm. The DA 50-200 can be bought for less than 100$. Stopped down every lens performs well. But at the end it's completely your choice.

At this point there's little reason to get a DA 50-200 when the 55-300's exist and are available used for relatively little cost. I've had fun with my 50-200 with macro filters screwed to the front or around the house playing around but I wouldn't take it on a vacation. Haven't touched a Tamron or Sigma 70-300 but I think the same advice applies.

when you look at the reported numbers, there doesn't appear to be all that much difference [ I don't have the 18-135 so I can't do a " feels like " test ]

Yeah, I saw them on B&H. The problem is the 100% import fee. That's why I'll try to buy in Europe. It's more expensive than the US but much cheaper than here.

I found two stores in Paris with reasonably good prices with lots of Pentax lenses.

I'm also trying to find someone who have the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 Contemporary. It's a nice lens, I have it on my Sigma SD1 Merrill.

@aslyfox: Don't tell me... Last Black Friday I ordered a Panasonic GX85 kit with two lenses from B&H with 50% discount, then I ordered one. Not a bad deal at all.
