PJV, not at all, I am kind of glad to have suffered through it, I think I can now fine tune any healthy zoom quickly, with my eyes (almost) closed
Really good to hear that you found " a silver lining around that dark cloud."

Hmm... why just the lens? A lens should be calibrated for your body. If they calibrate it for another it might be way off for your camera...

I didn't include the camera following most of the advice out there.. which generally says that if other lenses are easily calibrated with the camera, it's probably not the camera but the one bad lens that's at fault.

Don't want to break your good mood but unfortunately if you send lens for calibration you need to do it together with the body. Different lenses work in different way with different bodies. Example - my da20-40 - with my K3II I can't calibrate it from menu as when set to 20mm it manifests BF. On 40mm the AF is perfectly precised. The same lens works perfectly on my KP. I had exactly the same case with da*16-50 (eventually replaced by mentioned da20-40 as much lighter piece of glass).

My other lenses does not exhibit any AF problems with either body.

Paulo, you are seriously bumming me out. I appreciate the comment though
I emailed the repair tech to let me know if he wants to me send the camera as well.

The 16-50 came back all shiny and new-like, with the tech's comment "seal ring replaced; a complete repair and return all functions to factory specs; complete cleaning (internal - external) and optical system". So I can't tell what was actually wrong with it but luckily it looks like the lens is now usable. I've been able to correct the AF to where I can no longer complain, I guess it's a keeper after all. The repair was a flat fee of $212.50, shipping included.
