Any 50mm f/1.2 lenses out there?

I think a few different versions of the lens were made. Small numbers though..

Any pics?

Anyone have one for sale?

Max

according to this list, there are 4 versions PKM, PKM Gold, PKA and PKA Special.

Pentax "Normal" Prime Lenses

Not something I have looked to buy myself as the price difference from 1.4 was too much to justify (and I cant get my MF f1.4 pics in focus much of the time ) but did see two near mint ones at SH photo in Germany for 450 Euro a few weeks ago

Actually there are five versions:
SMC PENTAX 1:1.2/50
smc PENTAX 1:1.2 50mm
smc PENTAX 1:1.2 50mm gold
smc PENTAX-A 1:1.2 50mm
smc PENTAX-A 1:1.2 50mm Special

The very first version has SMC all capitalized, and marked as 1:1.2/50 instead of 1:1.2 50mm. It's probably the same as the rest optically ...

MHO about this is that with the advent of the DA*55 a price over 400 Euro for any of the 50/1.2 it's hardly justifiable from a technical standpoint. Most likely, at least this is my opinion; the new lens will smoke for performance the older designs big time plus the SDM, plus the most likely strongly reduced CA, plus the ws plus about 30 years of improvement in coatings and glass technology. And the 1/2 stop in favor of 50/1.2's could be useful only in most extreme situations and with a severe loss in contrast and color rendition.

I'll pass it without hesitation and wait for the DA*55!

Are you looking for one as part of a collection or as a user lens?
If you don't mind cosmetics I have an extra one that I'd let go.

LOL...

Actually I am having a great time just reading about Pentax again. I have been doing a lot of reading on the "Alternative Lens" forum over at FredMiranda. Really interesting stuff. There are tons of folks experimenting with mounting different lenses onto different bodies.

Some of this is due to a perceived lacking in a modern manufacturer's lineup, for cost savings, or obtaining a particular "look." Some of these old lens are quietly becoming "rock stars" in this arena. The Minolta Rokkor 58/1.2 now has a major following (they can be adapted to mount on the Canon 5D etc) and prices have gone through the roof. The Pentax 50/1.2 also has its devotees as does the Super Takumar 1.4.

After considering the 1.2 I bought a great little Super Takumar 1.4 today for $45! The focus ring is silky smooth and the glass is fungus free. The glass is a little yellow from the radioactive element but I can live with that. Quite a few shooters love how this lens works near wide open. Its very sharp but nice and "dreamy" wide open.

Here is a photo, taken 10 minutes ago...

I saw the gold version when I was in Taipei and I was so thrilled to see the near new condition of that lens. Beautiful in deed. Pity that I thought the pricing was too expensive at the time...

I did not know there are so many version altogether!

Try some flower close-ups with it at f2.8
Although I use mine mostly on a Sigma body.

In case anyone was wondering how I made the portrait of the Takumar...

Really quick shot with a Canon 5D camera with 45mm TS-E Tilt-Shift lens and Extension Tube EF12 with a little tilt for added focus. Photo taken on my computer desktop on a piece of cheap Xerox laser paper triggered with a Canon Transmitter ST-E2 that fired a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight flash set on SU-4 manual setting at 1/4 power while positioned on top of my desktop Mac Pro.

As you can tell I enjoy mixing apples and oranges...

Good point. I will start a repository for old obsolete Pentax lenses such as fast 50s. For a small shipping fee, I will see that they are disposed of properly.

I just saw your shot of this lens on the Takumar thread and then again here. Amazing shot! and good to hear how you managed it. A lot more gear + knowhow than I have access to.
