SMC Pentax-FA 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 AL [IF] - broken internal ring

Hi Pentaxians :-)

I've been using my SMC Pentax-FA 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 AL [IF] as a cheap but efficient walk-around lens.

Main drawback is its zoom creep. I use a rubber band to prevent it from extending when I walk, but it looks like it wasn't enough...
In the photo below, the red framed part should stand attached to the green framed edge.

The lens is still usable by holding the front end when it's extended, but I'd like to try to repair it.

I tried sticking it with basic super glue but as you'd expect, it didn't stick anything.
It seems to be some kind of metal alloy. Any idea about how to stick it back ?

Best regards from Rennes, FRANCE.
Alex.

JB Weld is the best readily available adhesive for metal to metal bonding in my opinion. The non-quick version is stronger but that shouldn't matter.

I would caution that superglue can damage plastics and possibly lens coatings with the outgassing vapors. I don't think epoxy will do this but be aware of the potential problem. These are inexpensive lenses easily replaced cheaply so maybe worth trying.

Just be sure to wait the full cure time not just the set time before assembling the lens again.

Hi there!
I stuck the part this Sunday. Things went quite well, and I reassembled the lens this evening, seems ok!
Thanks so much for your input, I'll let you know how things evolve as time goes by :-)
Best regards!
