I agree with the observation that at widest aperture, this is not at all uncommon for *any* lens when dealing with those sort of extreme high contrast areas. Usually gets better as you stop down unless your name is Tamron 70-300. Some lenses are more susceptible to it than others. I've seen better and worse than the posted samples, but don't have the 18-250 to say if that's typical or not.

Today I went for a walk with my new (used, bought from Gemini) DA 18-250.

( All pictures taken without the hood. )

It was around 1 PM.
