Thanks for all the input!

While I don't usually subscribe to the "One Lens" club, I will probably only use the Sigma for the Scotland/Switzerland trip. Unless I find a super nice 55-300 in the Marketplace! The airline we are flying from Scotland to Switzerland has a "ONE BAG ONLY" policy. If you bring two bags, bad things happen I guess.

The 17-50 will be fine. Learn how to stitch to simulate wider shots. Just let the tele shots go without another thought. I like one lens traveling and just worry about what you can shoot and not what you can’t.

If you are itching to buy gear, the 16-85 is great in good light and it’s WR. It has been known to rain in Scotland. If you will be indoors somewhere interesting, I’d want a faster lens along. The DA40 is microscopic.

either lens is perfect if you are concerned over weight/size issues
