Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW or Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG?

Hi,

I am planning to upgrade to K-1 and would like to get a 50mm/1.4.
Currently my choice is between Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW and Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG.
There is not much discussion I could find on the comparison of these two lenses.

If someone who has used these lenses and share the experience, I would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I havent used the Sigma, i only have the DFA*50, so far, my best prime lens and my secon best lens overall (i really prefer the DFA*70-200 due portrait purposes) but focuses way faster and with more confidence than any other lens i have

You may have seek for comparision against the Sigma vs Tokina Opera (Pentax rebrand) and look for more opinions in the Canon/Nikon world

The DFA*50 is probably the best autofocus fast fifty ever made. If you can justify the cost, get it.

I have the Sigma 50 F1.4 EX it is a great lens sadly it is out of production when it was in production it went for about half of what you would pay for the current Pentax 50 F1.4 which I have yet to obtain.

The DFA*50/1.4 has been called a category killer by industry insiders. I own it. I can’t imagine the Sigma could be better.

The Pentax DFA* 50mm is the best lens you can own on the K1 line, period.

I owned both, plus the FA50/1.4 and the DA*55/1.4.
The Sigma already lost out versus the DA*55/1.4 and had to go. The DFA* 50 is significantly better in all regards on FF.
Unless you have very limited funds, there is no question.

The Sigma is already large and heavy, so compactness is not a factor. The DA* and FA are the choise if you want small.

Most annoying lens design problem on the Sigma is focus shift between F1.4 and F4, so focus plane stopped down will not be the same as when shot and focused open. Unless you want to purely use it wide open, be prepared for slight focus issues.
Sigma HSM on it is also remarkably slower than the one on Pentax DFA* 50.
Obviosuly the Sigma has no weathersealing at all.

The DFA* can claim to outchart the current Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art, Canzilla.

But the lens you are considering is an older, smaller, less performing Sigma.
