K-30 compatability

Can anybody tell me if the 55-300 PLM WR Re is compatible with my K-30? It seems the K-50 has a firmware update, but I don't know about the K-30.

No, the K-30 isn't compatible with the new PLM WR lens. Well, not unless you're willing to run the K-50 firmware on it that a member here created.

I updated both my K-30s with this firmware. It didn't break them either.

It is not fully compatible. The lens will autofocus, but the aperture will be fixed at wide open.

There is one workaround which I don't recommend: you can (at your own risk) use a hack to install the K-50 firmware on a K-30, which would allow the camera to recognize the lens, assuming the latest K-50 firmware has been made available in this manner.

Along with many other members, I loaded the hacked K-50 f/w on my K-30 in the middle of last year and it has worked perfectly ever since and resulted in some extremely good shots with the PLM - no problems whatsoever, although a very few members did have some, but the linked thread also gives info on how to reset a K-30 if that should unfortunately happen.

Thus, overall, pretty much everyone who installed the hack has been extremely happy with the results .

When I got the PLM I loaded the hacked firmware on my K-30 and no issues whatsoever. I don't use the K-30 a lot, but this is a 7-year-old camera, warranty is long gone, and the reports of problems seem very limited and reversible. I don't see what the downside is.
