Is there a way to reference a list, going forward, of all KAF4 lenses?

I understand there are currently two; the new version of the 55-300, and the D FA* 50/1.4.

But obviously that list will grow over time. It would be nice to be able to easily reference at any time a complete list of KAF4 lenses.

There is one exception:
The Pentax K-30 can be updated with the 1.10 firmware:

Then it is as much compatible with the KAF4 lenses as the K50 or K70

On this list on your second link the K-30 is in the wrong place because with firmware 1.10, which is now even used
by the "officials", in this case Ricoh - Pentax Camera Repair | Authorized Service Center | Precision Camera

If ever anybody wants to go back to an older K-30 firmware, this is to be done either by using PK-Tether (the original webside is down sadly)
or by "debug menu", which is done by downloading those 2 files and then:
1. Store those 2 files on a correct formated SD-card directly next to the SDIM-file
2. SD-card into K-30 but SD-carddoor stays open
3. Switch K30 ON and one is right there in the Development Menu1:
4. 4th row: command: UDS DAT CLEAR = o.k.!
5. K-30 switched OFF, SD card removed and delete those 2 files on SD card.

Firmware 1.00 is really old.

Yes, many seem to be scared but nothing can go wrong doing a firmware update.
You just need a full LI-ION battery (or AA's, if you use those).
Pentax cameras never allow firmware updates with bad batteries! So no risk.
The rest is automatic. Just don't switch your camera off during update, that would be the only possible mistake.

The improvements are described in the thread! One is double ISO. I don't need it but some like it.
The other is PLM lenses can be used and the K30 works faster and is more stable!

But we're talking about the K30 and firmware 1.10, not the K3II

I feel like the manufacturer needs to write that.. Similar to how when you see an orthopedic doctor; and they write a comment to describe no significant changes to whatever they are inspecting..

Without actually describing the significance; It's difficult for me to jump on board..

Yeah, firmware is really old.. But so is the camera, considering a new camera pops out every 6 months or so..

Same analogy that there are still classic muscle cars driving around, still looking sexy as ever even knowing they're running on old outdated tech! It's no Tesla, but it gets me from point A to B...

Well.... Um.... I guess my only gripe is if my camera has a power saving mode and it turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity... Would that include updating thw firmware?

Is the camera smart enough to realize that there's an update in progress? (Not to auto-shutoff?)

Mmmm.... Is there anything changed with the astrotracer or pixel-shift performances? That's all I really care about...

And considering I only use specific lenses.. And dont have or plan on getting whatever the update is for; I could carry on my very merry way with the 1.00 firmware?

TBH, in my limited experience, RICOH has a poor record on updating the f/w for "older" models that are now out of production .

OTOH, I've updated the f/w on all my Pentax bodies over the last 11+ yrs with no real problems, and the hacked K-50 f/w for the K-30 worked very well and allowed me to use the 55-300 PLM (one of the best and most useful lenses I have ever bought ) on that body before I got the K-70.

It was my fault, I brougth in the K30 1.10 firmware but of course you do have the K3 and thus firmware 1.00.

Ricoh always mentions the benefits off the newer firmware! It is clearly statet on the downloadpage!

No changes to any function!


Auto-shut-off is deactivated during the firmware update!


There is really no risk at all!

So have a frest charged battery ready and download the firmware from here:

and follow the steps.

Nothing, really nothing can go wrong.
