It might not be the best optic around, but at least it's large, heavy, has a failure-prone AF system, and is expensive to compensate...

Are you sure you are talking about the lens in the OP's thread?

Yes. DA* 16-50mm vs. Sigma and Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Comparison Review - Specifications | PentaxForums.com Reviews

It's not massive but it's larger, heavier, and more costly than the competition. I've always liked the images from the Tamron the most out of these three.

I thought we were talking about the 18-50 WR collapsible lens that was initially debuted with the K-S2 and is currently being sold for about $290 at B&H or Adorama….you have to slide the aperture dial to lock the barrel in place before use...

The title of the thread is "Am I wrong to hate the DA* 16-50mm?" and folks are talking about SDM failures.

The 18-50 at first seemed kind of meh to me as well for different reasons. And the one I looked at in B&H's NY store did seem a bit flimsy. But there are folks here that have shared images from it that have made me reconsider it to a degree (not interested in purchasing one thou) especially when they were able to stop the lens down a bit. f8 shots seem extremely sharp and contrasty. I could see it and a K-01 making for a very nice street kit, maybe with an F 50 1.7 and a DA 15.

EDIT: Or that new HD FA 35 f2! But not the DA 16-50, because I don't like that lens.
