Need help identifying a lens mount.

Seller states that it is a contax mount. Doesn't look like any of my C/Y mounts.

Looks like a breech mount but I'm uncertain which one. What is the manufacturer and specs of the lens?

this might be of help

" So you've found a lens and you don't know what camera it fits? Scroll down this set of photos until you find the one that it looks like. I don't have everything here, but I have most of the more common ones for manual-focus, focal plane shutter 35mm SLRs. . . . "

This is correct. It's sometimes called the Zeiss-Contax rangefinder mount. See the product pictures on this page.

So the seller was kinda right in calling it a Contax mount, but it's not the Contax/Yashica mount we'd normally conclude from that.

funnily enought i think of this mount first when contax mentioned. post war it was used on zeiss in the west but russia also made rf with this mount using original tooling

It's a Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 135 mm f/4.
Any idea what adapter I would need? It's not a C/Y or a M42.🤔

It is Contax/Kiev rangefinder mount. If fits the outer bayonet on a camera like mine:

Note that the mount is complex and that proper adapters are difficult to find and often expensive. Amadeo adapters are amazing quality, but pricey.

CameraQuest | Amadeo Adapters

BTW...assuming the lens in question is genuine, it would be German and is as much Zeiss as any other lens bearing that name. That being said, entities in what was the Soviet Union made legal and quite legitimate copies of the CZJ Sonnar 135/4 marked as Jupiter-11 in Contax/Kiev and several other mounts for both SLR and rangefinder cameras. It is not unusual to see examples of the Soviet-made Jupiter-11 modified with bogus Zeiss trim rings and being sold as Zeiss Jena. Both are worth owning, though the J-11 is usually less money. (A Jupiter-11 in Contax-Kiev mount usually sells for under $100 USD in Ex+ condition. A CZJ Sonnar 135/4 sells for at least half again more. Of course, there is some variation +/- on pricing.)

Steve

(...no relation to Amadeo or cameraquest other than as a happy customer...)
