I had a stuck filter on my 16-50 the other day. I put the petal lens hood back on in the storage position and gripped it in my left hand. This gave me enough of a grip on the lens to remove the filter with my stronger right hand. With an older (manual?) lens, rack it out to the minimum distance, to give yourself more to hold onto.

It makes little sense, but I have found I couldn't remove a filter, then I put the lens aside, and later tried and w/o real effort it came off. Go figure!

The angry photographer on youtube recommends a tiny amount of teflon grease on the filter threads before attaching, to avoid them binding.

Cool the filter (or heat the lens) gently thereby changing the diameter ever so slightly of one or the other (if the gripping options don't work). Don't resort to lubricants as they can seep into the lens.
Referring to this post above ... I had a similar problem years ago and the suggestion was to cool (with "something icy cold") the filter ... it worked for me.
Have you tried it?
