I've only had my 70mm-210mm f/3.5 Series 1, version 1, Kiron/67mm for a relatively short period of time and as is the case most of the time when you buy something used, it does not come with a copy of the owners manual, etc.. That is the case with my 70mm-210mm version 1 Kiron, and as I said, I've only had it a short time, and am admittedly, a novice not only with the lens in terms of use, but about its functionality as well. So, if my question seems foolish and comical to some of your much more accomplished shooters with this lens than I am, please overlook it/me. In any case, does anyone know where I can find, and ideally a free one at that, but, an owners/operators manual for this lens???? Thanks in advance for whatever assistance you can provide me with.

For lens hood, you can visit an ebay store by the name of heavystar, they have a good collection of lens hood. visit

eBay Seller: heavystar: Cameras Photo items on eBay.com

and search for "67mm metal lens hood" or "62mm for the other versions as in Komine" and I would pick those that have both the lens hood and the matching cap on the hood. For the series 1, I will pick the longer one.

Hope this help,
Hin

Found these (although not for v1)

Sonia Metal 62mm Hood

Screw Mount 62mm Hood

The first one is considerably longer than the 2nd. Makes me wonder if the first is too long.

The first one look too long to me. The 2nd one looks good. And here is a forward message that I sent to a buyer of my Komine 'A' copy

I find this link for a rubber lens hood that allow you to have filter and likely the lens front cap

Camerafilters.com - Detail

There is no guarantee whether that will allow you on the front cap, but somewhere along the line that it describes the hood can accommodate a 62mm filter. That way, you can use polarizer.

Thanks,
Hin

2. You can look for 62mm metal lens hood in an ebay store by the name of "heavystar" and I highly recommend this place. They have the lens hood with matching front cap that cover the lens hood. So in the field, I mount the 62mm lens hood always on and have the lens cap in 67mm to cap on the lens hood for storage.

A. try to look up this item by id 140256873159
New Metal Telephoto 62mm Screw-in Lens Hood + Cap - eBay (item 140256873159 end time Apr-06-09 14:29:02 PDT)

B or try this
eBay Seller: heavystar: 62mm lens hood, Cameras Photo items on eBay.com
I personally prefer the metal lens hood as the rubber one need to be in good quality.

For 67mm for v1 from Kiron, try

I just "stole" a Ver 1 of these and I'm smitten! Mine is an early one without the blue VMC on the beauty ring. It's a monster. There are a couple spots on an inner element but they are on the very edge so no biggie. I find it an excellent performer, even when coupled with a 2x TC.

Goodies, a user manual and moreĽ

Regards,
Mike

The "official" one is at VIVITAR SERIES 1 70-210MM F3.5 LENS SHADE [67MM MODEL] - eBay (item 370171579787 end time Mar-18-09 12:24:49 PDT)

I realize that it can't be too long to avoid vignetting at 70mm, but I think it's still too short (especially for a 35mm lens used on an APS-C dSLR). But, it's still the "official" one...

Looks like you get it all sorted out. I am done with the Vivitar Series 1 zoom and I have moved on to adaptall-2 zooms. The caveats in adaptall-2 is needing a adaptall-2 P/K-A adapter if one wants to have the AE (auto exposure) but it is a luxury option you can choose to buy for a MF lens that is not an option for the first two versions of the Vivitar Series 1 zoom. And best of all, the adaptall-2 lens are mount-able on other systems. I can share my adaptall-2 lens between my Pentax digital with other non-Pentax film gear. And one day when I am ready to try Nikon F film camera, I am more than ready. And if I ever want to try it on M42 film bodies, I just need the adaptall-2 m42 adapter which is inexpensive to get.

Among many adaptall-2 zooms, I highly recommend the one and only Tamron SP 70-210mm f/3.5 adaptall-2 (19AH) and if you want a DA* 60-250 focal length clone, I can recommend the Tamron 75-250mm f/3.8-4.5 adaptall-2 (104A). Many people crave about the 103A but I like the 104A a bit better due to the extended reach to 250mm.

A recent picture with Tamron SP 70-210mm f/3.5 adaptall-2 (19AH) to show, this is a difficult lens to use compared to the Tokina Vivitar Series 1 zoom, but it grows on me on usage

Warmest,
Hin
