28-50 M vs K

Is the 28-50 zoom K series identical to the M series. I see different review grading (though the K only has 1 review). Number of elements/groups are the same as are dimmensions. I just pick up the K version and was wondering.

The lens formula is the same:
K

M

But PF just used the same image in both descriptions. The only differences I can see is the K weighs 315 grams and focusses op to 55cm. The M weighs 310 grams and focusses op to 60cm. So the K variant will probably a bit longer at CFD.

I have both and just the differences mentioned above. The s/n range is also different

The OEM hood is also hard to find. I had to buy the M lens just to get the hood for my K Series lens.

The best web resource for Pentax is the K mount (KMP) pages (once run by Bojidar Dimitrov) for all specifications and details, do not bother with either 28-50 go for the 24-50 just as good and a bit wider at the bottom, It replaced both lens' you mention.

I am looking for a 24-50 but haven't found one I wanted yet. The 28-50 was cheap so I grabbed it. I've been rebuilding my M/K lenses collection recently...adding the 35/2.8, 50/4 macro, 135/3.5, 150/3.5 and 75-150/4. I'm looking to add the 28/2.8 24-50, 85/2.0, 100/2.8, 120/2.8 and 300/4... And might try to add the 20/4, 28/2 and 35/2

If you are going for the 20/f4 go for the early K 20mm (known as the long one) its a version of the 18mm, 3.5, 12 elements in 10 groups not the short one M series 8 elements in 8 groups and not as good.

If you can find one and then it will cost as much as a modern equivalent.
