hi guys, im kinda looking for 90-135mm manual portrait lens for apsc pentax.

there seems to be many choice - tamron adaptall 90mm, vivitar 100mm, what would be your pick?

something under 500grams and not big would be good. tamron 105mm adaptamatic is tiny but very rare

or should I just get nikon to pentax adapter to adapt my nikon 105mm f2.5 ais? i reckon the glass element in the adapter would degrade image quality

I own the Takumar (Bayonet) 135/2.5 four element. Light and cheap.

90-135 is longish for portraits on APS-C, but....

I have the K135/2.5, which weighs exactly 500gm. You'd struggle to find nicer rendering.

My DFA100WR also works nicely. If you really want manual, something like the A series 100/2.8 macro might suit. It comes in at *just* under 500gm.

The A135/2.8 is lighter again, and is highly regarded. I have the FA version and it's wonderful.

There are of course numerous options at 85mm, but that is outside your brief

I have the nikkor 105 2.5 ai modified for k mount and the 6 element takumar 135 2.5. They are close in rendering, not focal length or color. Here is a person breakdown of multiple lenses 70-105. Portrait lenses compared: from 75 to 105mm

You might want to try a preset lens with round aperature, I looked at many 135’s and for the real depth look the preset lenses seem to have an optical formula that gives better bokeh and more depth at any aperture than newer lenses,

The A 100 f2.8 (non macro) is very small and a stellar lens. The M series version is similar optically.

I have the M 100/2.8 and love it. Lightweight, small and sharp.

can also recommend the M 100/2.8. The Bokeh is almost as good as the Bokeh of my FA77. And the SMC 135/2.5 is wonderfull too, but a lot heavier. Try to get a M 100/2.8, you will love it.

For me “Sweetheart”(Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4) for both FF and APSC, but then I could be a bit bias.

The SMC (non m) 85mm f1.8 is also a great portrait lens. I had one for years until a balsam separation took it down. It had excellent bokeh and a lovely glow to out of focus highlights between f1.8 and 2.8.

I have several lenses that would qualify, and I love two of them - the A100mm (not the macro) and the Tamron 90mm the 52BB.Both are small and light, and take standard sized filters that may match other lenses in your kit.

If you are interested in a zoom then I would recommend the Tamron Adaptall 2 35-80mm/ f2.8-3.8. This is a short, light (less than 400g) and incredibly sharp lens with the versatility to make framing a portrait easier. Almost as sharp and half the weight is the Pentax F 35-70mm but that is a bit slower at the long focal length.

All four of these are really sharp when you can get the focus spot-on and you select the aperture gives you a useful depth of field to play with. I do not take portraits, but they are all capable of extreme sharpness at up to 5m, if that is why you want this focal length.

The M85/2 and the A100/2.8 are in my bag. The A100 is sharper, but the M85 has something that appeals.

My three manual focus portrait lens choices @ 500 grams or less, would be:

K85/1.8
K135/2.5
K105/2.8 (I also have the M100/2.8 and the K is much better)

The Bower/Samyang 85 1.4 would be even more economical and according to those who have used both is pretty much the Pentax lens equal other than lack of autofocus. Since the OP is looking for manual lenses anyway...
