Yep. That's what came with my ME Super when I got it new back in 1980. I still use it when using my ME Super. The only lens I like better on it is my M20/4 but it's not "cheap" the way the M50/2 is.

Can't go past the Ricoh 28mm F2.8 Rikenon XR. But avoid the later P version which isn't totally compatible with the Pentax K mount.

Get a K/M/A 28 or a 35 (3.5 would be fine) and a 50/1.7. All you really need!

I can highly recommend the M 24-35mm/3.5. It's almost as small as a prime, almost as sharp, and it covers the range of focal lengths that I've personally always used most on film.

M 35 f2.8 or the M 50 1.7. Agreed that the M 40 is almost too small and is optically outperformed by the other two.

If its cheap it has to be the 50mm 1.7 - they seem to turn up regularly. I bagged one last week for £30 in a charity shop and its totally mint and had a decent skylight as well.

If you want the versatility of a zoom: adaptall 35-70mm 17A. Lens easily acquired cheaply. PKM mounts are cheap. Most of the time I don't see the difference between results with this lens and with the vaunted 01A 35-80mm.

Yah I'm keeping an eye on this one seeing if I can get a decent deal. It's absolutely tiny.

Also there's an M28/3.5 that's super cheap with a frozen focus ring but minty optics, I'm not too bad with my hands so maybe I'd try fixing that? What could the problem be with it?

Edit: I ended up buying the "non functioning" 28 3.5 for 20 dollars including shipping. I have a feeling the problem is incredibly basic but will get a closer look at it when it arrives. And at this price I'm sure someone here would want it cheap if I can't work with it.

"Frozen" is not a good sign. If it is a matter of the grease dried out the action will typically be stiff. Still, keep your fingers cross and hope that's all it is.

As noted before many times the budget "kit" lenses for this camera when new would have been the M28/3.5, M50/2.0/1.7.

The lens looks to be completely mint otherwise so I assume it's the grease.

I’ll second the 24-35...
Outstanding for walk-arounds, particularly in cities.
24 does architecture, 35 does people...

If you can loosen up the focus ring, the 28mm f3.5 is a fine lens. I think I will follow others in recommending the 50mm f1.7 as perhaps the best manual 50mm for the ME Super. The 50mm f2 is cheaper, but doesn't have the IQ. The 50mm f1.4 is faster, but too much more expensive to justify its additional price over the f1.7 just to get a half-stop that you will very rarely use.

BTW: In the owner ratings here on PF, the M 50mm f1.7 is rated higher than the M 50mm f1.4, but the A 50mm f1.4 is rated higher than the A 50mm f1.7. Go figure,

It seems like the obvious choice but it's grossly overpriced for its performance.
They can be obtained for less than that, I payed less than $90.00 for my "Retro Lady" (cool hood included) at B&M shop. I can only describe it as a fun wee lens, in fact the hood is bigger than the lens.

I've added a link to my review of this lens, which also has a few examples of "real world" usage, which I hope helps you with your lens selection.
