Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 first test shots

The Sigma looks to be a decent lens. The Tammy looks to be an outstanding lens. As much as I've been impressed with the Sigma lens(es) I have recently, I'd get the Tammy. Not only does it appear to be sharper, it's also $100usd less.

Hubby is probably going to kill me, but I've decided I'm going to get either the Tamron or Sigma version. Forgive my ignorance, but why does HSM make it a deciding factor? What is the distinct advantage of it?

Ventured out into the morning dew for some quick breakfast shots.
It renders OOF nicely at f/4 and larger. A pleasant lens for those easy-going
moods - not just a sports lens!

HSM makes it silent. And in theory faster, but if your camera body has a fast screw drive motor like the K10D/K20D, that's not true...

Went looking for some sports to shoot just after sundown. Found these guys
playing a made-up game, somehow combining soccer and volleyball.

Anyway, tried to take some shots, but at ISO 800, f/2.8 or 3.5 and 1/180s max
at 200mm, hard to get nice clear, sharp shots - but the lens still did OK, IMO:

The Olympics it aint.

The face in #2 and #4 is soooo sharp. Nice work. I'm trying to sell everything I can part with to get one of these lenses.

yeah, 50-135 looks definitely looks like a better choice if you're going to be hiking for miles with the thing dangling around your neck...

But if you were carrying it in a bag, you wouldn't have to carry the extra 200mm f/2.8 if that was your long focal length option...

I think I'm squirreling away money for other things though...

There's a national sports center in a northern suburb that I drive past a
a lot - it's usually host to massive soccer tournaments on weekends. I've
always meant to go there to try some telephoto sports-shooting.

Well, drove all the way out there this afternoon - and they were having a
'craft fair'. A friggin' craft fair, at one of the largest sports complexes in the
midwest, on a beautiful Fall day. I thought about going in and taking some
shots anyway, but that would have been stupid to show up at a craft
fair with a huge 70-200 to take pictures of wicker baskets or whatever.

So anyway, I went back to the park by our house and found some people
just messing around having fun, and took some shots:

Ok J, you gotta tell me, how much is Tamron paying you to post all of these fantastic images?

I bet you will be responsible for a fair amount of sales of this lens !! I know I am SERIOUSLY thinking about getting it since seeing all of these shots in your thread !!
