VIvitar 28mm Pentax PK/K versus M mount

Hi all,

Novice Pentax K1000 and member of the forum! Hello.

I recently purchased a "Vivitar 28mm f2.8 Pentax PK mount" lens off Ebay. However, it doesn't appear to fit my Pentax K1000 and on the side of the lens, there is a "M/MD". Is this a Pentax M mount? Still figuring this easy stuff out!

Sincerely,
Andy

not a K-mount, the M/MD would indicate a Minolta mount...

you should contact the seller and request a return/refund...

I think you may have a Minolta mount lens.

QuoteQuote:
The Minolta SR-mount was the bayonet mounting system used in all 35mm SLR cameras made by Minolta with interchangeable manual focusing lenses. Several iterations of the mounting were produced over the decades, and as a result, the mount itself was sometimes referred to by the name of the corresponding lens generation (f.e. "MC", "MD" or "X-600") instead.

Can you post a picture of it?

Can you post a photo of the back of the lens, the lens mount area please? (With the rear plastic cap removed)

The aperture ring is also backwards from typical Pentax. I converted one from MD to PK sort of - no aperture lever - and it really wasn't worth the bother.

I'd say it is a Minolta mount. I believe I see the MD tab on the lower right side of the aperture ring.

I used to shoot with Minolta gear and 'MD' would most likely indicate a Minolta mount with automatic aperture control for shooting in aperture priority or full program mode.

Yep, that thar be a lens for a Minolta. It looks like the latch on the aperture ring is a bit chewed up.

I realized I never said thank you for everyone's help. So thank you! The seller agreed to the return so all's well that ends well.
