Yes, the DFA* 85mm should be just around the corner. I'm guessing that it's the next roadmapped lens that we will see.

There's also copies of the FA* 85 1.4 around. A number of forum users love that lens.

Sure there are, plenty. But why not a nice modern lens, like the DFA 50mm? Oh I'll get one, either Pentax, or Nikon.

I shouldn't have to buy a third party lens just to get an 85mm.

The Nikon started at $2000, but it's couple years old now.

What are you planning to use it for?
What's the rush?

Canon costs 1600, Sigma 1200, put the Pentax at 1500.
No rush to get the 85, but without this option, there is quite some pull away to a company that manages to offer a 1.4 85 solution.

I owned the glorious A* 85 f1.4, sold it, bought the FA 77 f1.8 and never felt like I missed anything. But I've not used the FA* 85 f1.4 nor the Nikon. The A* admittedly was a bit sharper wide open than the FA* 85 from all that I've seen. I guess it really depends on what you want that modern lens to do...

No you don't. If you need such lens shortly, you can get a used Pentax FA*85, or Pentax FA77 and resell it almost the same price to finance the new D-FA*85 when it'll be available.

She may not be "modern"... but I find that my “Sweetheart” (Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4) is more than capable and can certainly deliver results.
