Hd pentax-d fa 24-70 mm f2.8 ed sdm wr

Hi, I'm new on this platform...
and I start with an issue.
I wouldn't know how to describe, pictures are surely clearer than my words.
It seems that the rubber is moulding/getting mouldy and from the contact point with the lens something is raying out... (it looks like a reflex) it doesn't change with light exsposure.
Any body of you has an idea about? what is going on?
The lens is quite new, I bought it last Nov. and I keep all my lenses wit outmost care and attention.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Ciao

Welcome to Pentax Forums.
This looks like a manufacturing fault to me. Get it looked at by an authorised service facility ASAP.
Where are you in Italy?

Looks like there was so overheating, happening on the outer plastic seal, behind the front lens group. How this happened? I have no idea.

Yes Sandy, from Italy.
It is surprising that I noticed it only after months, changing filters, no signs on photos.
Thank You!

Hi biz-engineer,

overheating? What do you mean? What is the maximum allowed? Yes it is very hot in these day in Italy, never left camera and lenses in car or in oven , usually I usually use a small shoulder bag...
Ciao!

Was the lens ever subjected to direct sunlight? If not, then this could be a manufacturing defect, and you should file a warranty claim.

Thank you Adam. I will.
Never direct sunlight, unless under normal shooting condition.
Ciao!

I was thinking localized application of heat...

Like the front of the lens was rested against a piece of hot metal with the cap off.

When I was a child, a metal car seatbelt or something like that would fit the bill on a really hot day...

Wait, thatís behind the first group? OK, not sure how to do that if you tried...

That sure looks strange. The damage seems to be behind the first lens.
The only explanations I can think of are:
- if exposed to sunlight, unexpected combinations of refractions and reflections may sometimes occur on lens surfaces, causing hot ”focal points” in strange locations.
- manufacturing defect
Difficult to know for sure or prove. Hope the dealer is co-operative!
