I have the very old Takumar 200/3.5. It's heavy, manual focus, and requires the screw mount adapter.

But if you can find a good copy, it's comparatively cheap, very sharp and has nice bokeh.
I also have this. I bought it to upgrade my 200mm from M200/4.

There's a thread for 200mm lenses where you can check how they perform: "The 200mm... the seemly unloved these days focal length club" - Page 6 - PentaxForums.com

Yes, that is a reasonable statement. What is a Tamron 70-200/2.8 Di LD Macro going for used nowadays?

(...~ $769 USD street price new, today...)
Keep looking. I got one new about two years back for around $560. Check EBAY for the going price, but I suspect you can get a used one for under $500 in excellent condition. The version that is offered with K-mount has been superseded by at least two upgrades offered in CaNikon but not Pentax mount, which makes the older version less desirable and therefore less expensive.

I just went on Amazon and saw a used one on offer for $499

I have a TELETAKUMAR 200mm f5.6 M42 which I love for being such a tiny lens and an excellent SMCPentax-M 200mm F4. On my KP, however, I'm more likely to use my DAL 55-300, especially when shooting handheld.

Another good option on full frame is the venerable VIVITARSERIES 1 70-210mm line if you want to try a zoom. With mine (version 2), it's quite good open at the wide end, but f8-11 is best at the long end.

There is also one listed on the Marketplace here for (price just reduced) $475. Given that the original post was in regard to a lens readily available for less than $50, the Tamron, even used, seems a bit on the high side. The point is usually made that it makes no sense to go cheap when building a kit for an expensive camera. That being said, there is no crime in paying less when less is what you want. A few days ago I was photographing up at Mt. Rainier and spent a considerable amount of time attempting manual focus with my Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.0 (C) zoom and wishing I had my Pentax-M 50/1.7 mounted instead.

I can recommend my "Gorgeous Lady” (Pentax-A* 200mm F2.8 ED) see for some example images and others in this focal length.

I have both the SMC-A 200mm f4 and the SMC-K 200mm f4.
If price is an issue does the possibility exist to consider the SMC-K ?
Its slightly better IMO , significantly higher rated here on the Forum , and costs less !
