Which One On My KP

I just took this photo with my KP and the 18-135mm, no tripod and the wind was up moving the flower.

Hi Norm

I use the 18-35 as my main walk around ens. It meets most of my needs.

If I am going birding I use the 150-500 and if I am going for wide angle I use the 8-16. Macro I use the 90.

I usually set out with specific subjects in mind but mostly using the 18-35.

Of those you listed, the only one I use on a KP is the D FA* 50mm F1.4. What I'd want for travel would be the D FA 24-70mm ED SDM WR (I mostly use FF lenses on the KP), assuming I'd be bringing only one lens.

He is a B&W I did using the Pentax KP and the 18-135mm. My Settings were ISO 400 21mm -2EV f/4.5 1/50

I have taken the FA31 with me to England/Ireland (on the K-1) in 2016, Italy (KP) in 2017 and England/France (KP and K-1) last June. It is a wonderful lens on the KP.

Not the there's anything wrong with the DA20-40 or the DA18-135. They are both great choices, but I reckon the 20-40 is a better ergonomic and aesthetic match for the KP if that accounts for anything.

Thank you so much for the photos Sandy, and thanks for the comments. The only think I wish you had not done is use the 31mm and show me photos because I do love mine and it is a fantastic performer for clarity and color. WOW!!!! CHOICES!!!!!!!!

For me, a lot depends on the purpose of the travel and my travel companions. On a recent trip to Montana and Idaho for fly fishing with three friends, I came to appreciate the range of the 18-135 which allowed me to get shots I might have missed otherwise. The purpose of the trip was to investigate and fly fish a number of trout waters, covering hundreds of miles. There was no time to wait for the light, and little time for setup. Were it not for the range, I would not have captured moments and scenes that presented themselves quickly.

On the other hand, when I head out to Yellowstone with my wife, the 18-135 will be replaced by several better IQ lenses. The purpose of that trip is sightseeing and photography.

I have a Rokinon 85mm f/1.4. It is a wonderful lens but it is tricky to get the focus right. You can use the focus indicator in the viewfinder but live view gives more consistent results.

The 31mm and 20-40mm both look like good choices.

The 18-135 is a good all rounder but IQ would not be in the same league as the others.

The 200/2.8 would be wonderful but it is heavy and not really something that one uses every day. I have the old school 200/2.5 and 200/4, so I can speak from experience on telephoto ownership.
