smc pentax-f 2.8 macro

My lens was working fine in AF mode. Tried taking a few shots today and infinity focus did nothing but hunt. I tried everything I could think of to correct the problem but nothing worked. As of now it works in MF only (which is fine) but it would be nice to figure out this AF problem.

Hello,

What camera are you using? When manual focusing, do you get focus confirmation? Have you tried in another camera? You mention at infinity. Does it work at close range?

Thanks,

it was working fine until today. I have it on my K10D, and it was focusing like it should, then it just stopped and did nothing but hunt. Manual focus works proper, no issues at all.

Does the lens have an aperture ring? Set to "A"?

Try cleaning the contacts on both the camera and lens.

Select "sensor cleaning" from the menu. This will lift the mirror and expose the sensor. Use a rocket blower to knock any dust off the AF module.

The AF module is located at the bottom of the mirror box, behind the mirror. That is why you need the mirror up to use the blower.

Try the lens again.

This has been tried multiple times, but thank you for the response.

I will try this, but I would assume that my other AF lenses wouldn't function proper if the AF module was dirty. I tried my old DA and it functions like a champ.

No, the lens is set correctly and was working fine, then it just stopped auto focusing and continued to hunt and hunt and hunt.

OK, I just noticed something that the lens appears to be doing. My manual focus is only working in the macro mode, I cannot focus out to infinity in manual or AF. I seem to be stuck in the macro mode and cant set the lens back to full focus. The AF is working up-close also. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

You probably set the focus limiter by accident.

Change the Focus Range setting to "Full".

The focus range is on full, so it's not the limiter.

You are assuming the Limiter switch is working correctly.

I am not assuming anything at this point, other than this lens may need to see a tech.

Any advice on who I could send this lens too? I was thinking of calling Precision Camera http://www.precisioncamera.com/professional-camera-repair.html

email Eric Hendrickson Home-Pentaxs (email addy at Link). Ask if he can service the lens. Precision probably won’t service an F-series lens. They’re 30 years old.

Well, I contacted Eric and he replied that he can not fix my lens. :-(
